Empowering Young Makers at Girls' Brigade

We were honored to partner with SCGS Girls' Brigade to help their students earn merit badges while creating meaningful gifts. The workshop served dual purposes: teaching practical skills for badge qualification and producing handmade appreciation tokens for their annual event. Using sustainable offcuts from our furniture production, each participant crafted multiple keychains - one to keep as a personal achievement, and several more to serve as heartfelt gifts for event guests.

Skill-Building Meets Purposeful Crafting

Our instructors carefully designed the session to balance technical instruction with purposeful making. Students learned fundamental woodworking techniques while absorbing our sustainability values through hands-on practice with repurposed materials. The volunteer captains were particularly pleased with how seamlessly the workshop combined badge requirements with their need for special appreciation gifts, creating a rewarding experience that served multiple organizational goals.

Lasting Lessons in Craft and Sustainability

The enthusiastic response from both students and leaders confirmed the workshop's success. Participants left not only with new skills and merit badge qualifications, but also with pride in having created meaningful gifts from sustainable materials. This collaboration demonstrated how woodworking education can extend beyond technical skills to instill environmental awareness and the joy of giving - values that align perfectly with Girls' Brigade's mission of developing capable, compassionate young women.
